School Policies

School Policies

To ensure that Desert Star is a safe and respectful learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors it is important that the following policies are maintained and followed. If you have any questions or concerns please contact any member of the administration team.

Student Sign Out

All students must be signed out through the front office during school hours. The person signing the student out must be listed on the student registration form and must show ID upon request. Parents or guardians are not permitted on campus or in the classrooms with out checking into the front office first. We value your child's instructional time and greatly appreciate it if time out of class can be limited.  Please keep in mind that we have early release every Wednesday, which is a great opportunity for those necessary and needed appointments without missing class.

School Visits

We welcome parents and community members to visit Desert Star School. It is important to check in at the front office before going into classrooms or any location on the campus.  Every visitor is required to submit a photo ID (like a driver's license) in exchange for a visitor badge.  This allows us to know who is on campus at all times and guarantees that all visitors leave through the front office.  You will exchange your visitor badge for your photo ID upon leaving.  If you plan on visiting a classroom please contact the teacher so they can expect you.

Class Treats

Due to the Arizona state law all treats brought to the school for special events must be pre-packaged. Unfortunately, homemade treats are unable to be consumed by students during school hours. If you have any questions or concerns about what can be distributed to students please review the state law, visit our district's food and nutrition website or contact the school.

Volunteering

All volunteers must fill out the district volunteer form and it must be kept on file in the front office.  The staff members you will be working with during your time volunteering will receive a copy of your form as well. Volunteers must also wear a visitor sticker/badge at all times while on campus.

Traffic / Parent Pick-Up

Parents who bring their children by car should unload and pick up children in the school's parent lane drive off of Lower Buckeye Parkway. In order to alleviate congestion and to speed the process of safely loading and unloading children adjacent to the cafeteria. The staff at Desert Star respectfully asks that you honor the following guidelines:

  1. Please be a good role model for our children by waiting for your turn in line and following safety procedures.
  2. Please use the designated drop off/pick up area. Do not drop off students in the front parking lot. This is unsafe for all students.
  3. Please obey all posted traffic signs.
